Ame-no-Fuyukinu-no-Kami

Ame-no-Fuyukinu-no-Kami is an Izumo-lineage deity recorded in Kojiki (712 CE, upper volume, Okuninushi genealogy section). The text traces a long lineage running from Takehaya-Susanoo-no-Mikoto down through Yashimajinumi-no-Kami and a series of intermediate deities, ending with the marriage of Fuminitomi-Torinarumi-no-Kami and Wakatsukushime-no-Kami, who beget Ame-no-Fuyukinu-no-Kami. He wed Sashikuni-Wakahime, daughter of Sashikuni-no-Okami, and they begot Okuninushi-no-Kami. Standing at the seventh generation in the Izumo line counted from Susanoo, Ame-no-Fuyukinu marks the convergence point of the genealogy at the threshold of Okuninushi's emergence. He has no independent shrine of his own; he is acknowledged in the main-shrine ritual of Izumo Oyashiro (Izumo Taisha) in Izumo, Shimane, ichinomiya of Izumo Province, as the father of Okuninushi. At Sada Shrine in Matsue, Shimane (ninomiya of Izumo Province) and other ancient shrines of Izumo, he may be enshrined among the Izumo ancestral group. He functions as a deity reinforcing the genealogical tradition behind the Izumo-no-Kuni-no-Miyatsuko Kamuyogoto.
