A deity of earth and clay recorded in the Kojiki as born from Izanami after the fire deity, paired with Haniyasu-Hiko-no-Kami.
Overview
Haniyasu-Hime-no-Kami is a deity of earth and clay who appears in the Kojiki, Book One, in the section recounting the deaths of Izanami. The Nihon Shoki refers to her under variant names including 埴山姫, 埴山媛, and 埴安神.
Appearances in Sources
In the Kojiki kamiumi section, after Izanami was burned giving birth to Kagutsuchi, two deities were born from her excrement: Haniyasu-Hiko-no-Kami and Haniyasu-Hime-no-Kami. In the Nihon Shoki, fifth section, alternative version six, the earth deity is named Hanyasu-no-Kami.

She is paired with Haniyasu-Hiko-no-Kami and counted among the deities born from Izanami's body during the kamiumi episode.
Worship and Ritual
The Engishiki Jinmyocho lists Uneo-ni-Masu-Takedoyasu Jinja (Yamato Province, Towochi District) and Hanniyamabime Jinja (Awa Province, Mima District). The latter is noted in scholarship for its connection with Mount Kagu in Yamato.
Alternative Names
Also written as 埴山姫 (Haniyamahime) and 埴山媛 in the Nihon Shoki, and as 埴安神 (Hanyasu-no-Kami) in some Nihon Shoki variants.
