Description
Kamuoichihime (神大市比売) is an earthly goddess recorded in the Kojiki (712 CE). The daughter of Oyamatsumi-no-Kami, she became the wife of Susanoo and bore Otoshi-no-Kami and Ukanomitama-no-Kami, the founders of the grain-deity lineage. She also bears the character of a guardian of the marketplace (ichi). According to the Kojiki upper scroll Otoshi lineage section, "he married Kamuoichihime and produced Otoshi-no-Kami; next Ukanomitama-no-Kami". After Susanoo married Kushinada-hime in Izumo, he took Kamuoichihime as a second wife, marking the starting point of the grain-deity lineage. Father is Oyamatsumi-no-Kami; siblings include Konohana-no-Sakuya-bime and Iwanaga-hime. Children are Otoshi-no-Kami and Ukanomitama-no-Kami (the Inari deity). Principal shrine: Otoshi Mioya Shrine in Shizuoka City.
