Description

Kehi-no-Okami (気比大神) is a divine name listed in the Kojiki (712 CE), specifically in the Chuai scroll on the Kehi Okami. The Kokugakuin University Database of Deities preserves the reading. According to the Kojiki, Empress Jingu and the future Emperor Ojin received an oracle from this deity at Tsuruga; the deity and the prince exchanged names, and the prince was named "Homuda-Wake". The deity is venerated at Kehi-Jingu in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture (Echizen Province ichinomiya), listed in the Engishiki (927 CE). Interpretations of identification vary across commentaries, and IZANORA records this name strictly as it appears in the source.
