Description
Omoikane-no-Kami (思金神) is a heavenly deity recorded in the Kojiki (712 CE) and Nihon Shoki (720 CE). The child of Takamimusubi-no-Kami (Takagi-no-Kami), he governs wisdom. He is depicted as the proposer of the main councils of the High Plain of Heaven, including the Heavenly Rock Cave episode, the transfer of the central reed-plain country, and the heavenly descent, serving as the figure of strategy and reflection in the mythology. He is also written as Yagokoro-Omoikane-no-Kami. According to the Kojiki upper scroll Rock-Cave episode, when Amaterasu hid in the cave, the eight million deities gathered at Ame-no-Yasugawara, and Omoikane took the lead in devising the plan to gather long-singing roosters of the everlasting realm, to forge a mirror, to make jewels, and to use the dance of Ame-no-Uzume to draw open the rock door. He is venerated at Kisho Shrine in Tokyo and Togakushi Chusha in Nagano.
