Description
Otsuchi-no-Kami (大土神, also read Otsuchi-no-Kami) is an earthly deity recorded in the Kojiki (712 CE) as a child of Otoshi-no-Kami and Amechikarumizuhime. The name "Otsuchi" means the great earth or soil itself, and the deity governs the spiritual force of land and ground. Father is Otoshi-no-Kami (child of Susanoo and Kamuoichihime); mother is Amechikarumizuhime. Siblings include Okutsuhiko, Okutsuhime (the hearth deity), Oyamakui-no-Kami (of Mount Hiei), Niwatsuhi, Niwatakatsuhi, Asuha, Hahiki, Kayamatoomi, and Hayamato, forming the ten children of the same mother. Otoshi-no-Kami also fathered children with Kayohime (Mitoshi and Okaguyamatoomi) and with Inohime (Okunimitama, Karano-kami, Sohori, Shirahi, and Hijiri), and this deity belongs to that wider lineage.
