Description
Sashikuniwakahime (刺国若比売) is an Izumo-lineage goddess recorded in the Kojiki (712 CE). She is the mother of Okuninushi-no-Kami, the central deity of Izumo, and serves as an important node in organizing the Izumo lineage. According to the Kojiki upper scroll on Okuninushi, the section preceding the White Hare of Inaba narrative records the lineage clearly: "Amenofuyukinu-no-Kami married the daughter of Sashikuni-Okami, Sashikuniwakahime, and produced Okuninushi-no-Kami, also called Oanamuji-no-Kami". She is recorded as the wife of Amenofuyukinu-no-Kami in the seventh generation of the Izumo lineage. Father is Sashikuni-Okami. Consort is Amenofuyukinu-no-Kami; child is Okuninushi-no-Kami (also called Oanamuji-no-Kami, Ashihara-Shikoo-no-Kami, Yachihoko-no-Kami, and Utsushikunitama-no-Kami). She is venerated as part of the lineage at Izumo Taisha.
