Sohori-no-Kami is recorded in Kojiki (712 CE) as a child of Otoshi-no-Kami, listed in the Otoshi genealogy and identified by some readings with the Sono-no-Kami of palace ritual.
Description
Sohori-no-Kami appears in the Otoshi-no-Kami genealogical passage of Kojiki (712 CE) Upper Volume, where Otoshi-no-Kami takes Inohime, daughter of Kamuikusubi-no-Kami, and begets Okunimitama-no-Kami, Karakami, Sohori-no-Kami, Shirahi-no-Kami and Hijiri-no-Kami. The Otoshi line gathers deities with continental and agricultural associations, and Sohori-no-Kami is placed within this cluster. In Heian-period palace ritual the Imperial Household Ministry enshrined the Sono-no-Kami and the Karakami, and some readings identify Sohori-no-Kami with the Sono-no-Kami. The name is preserved in the deity rosters tied to the Sono-Karakami rites of the old Kyoto court.
