Description

Takagi-no-Kami is recorded in Kojiki (712 CE) Upper Volume as an alternate name of Takamimusuhi-no-Kami, one of the three creator deities (Zoka-Sanshin). In the Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni pacification passage he sits in council with Amaterasu-Omikami and dispatches Takemikazuchi-no-Kami. In the descent of the heavenly grandson Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the act is performed by command of Amaterasu and Takagi together, and in the Jimmu eastern campaign Takagi-Okami appears in a dream to bestow the sword Futsu-no-Mitama. As a creator deity standing apart, his children include Omoikane-no-Kami and Yorozuhata-Toyoakitsushi-Hime-no-Mikoto, the mother of Ninigi, which makes Takagi the maternal grandfather of the heavenly grandson. He is the principal deity at about thirteen shrines including Takagi Jinja in Kumagaya and Hatsukashi-ni-Imasu-Takamimusuhi Jinja in Kyoto.
