Description
Waka-Ikazuchi is a deity name registered in the Kokugakuin University Classical Cultures Project Shinmei Database. According to the database, the deity is cited from the Kojiki (712 CE), upper scroll, in the passage on the Land of Yomi. The figure appears among the Yakusa-no-Ikazuchi (Eight Thunder Deities) that arise from the decaying body of Izanami in the underworld. The Nihon Shoki (720 CE) preserves variant readings of the thunder-deity group. IZANORA records the deity with the Yomi-passage citation as the anchor and adds relations to Izanami and to the broader Eight Thunder Deities group.
