Description
Wazurai-no-Ushi-no-Kami is a deity name registered in the Kokugakuin University Classical Cultures Project Shinmei Database. According to the database, the deity is cited from the Kojiki (712 CE), upper scroll, in the passage on misogi, the purification of Izanagi-no-Mikoto upon his return from the Land of Yomi. The figure is among the deities born from the pollutions cast off in that rite, and the name carries the sense of "lord of afflictions." The Nihon Shoki (720 CE) preserves variant lineages of the misogi-born deities. IZANORA records the citation as the textual anchor and adds relations to Izanagi and to the misogi-born deity group.
