Description
Takayashiki Inari Shrine (Takayashiki Inari-jinja) stands in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, as a regional Inari shrine within the nationwide Inari belief network whose head shrine is Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto. The main enshrined deity is Uka-no-Mitama-no-Kami, recorded in the Kojiki (712 CE) as the offspring of Susanoo-no-Mikoto and identified with the grain and harvest deity venerated as Inari. The shrine is locally known for an arcade of vermilion torii leading through the precincts to the inner sanctuary, a landscape closely associated with the Inari devotional architecture diffused from Fushimi in the Edo period. Founded as a settlement Inari shrine in the Edo or Meiji period, it was designated a village shrine in the Meiji era and continues as a Jinja Honcho registered shrine maintained by the local parish community.
