Description
The Taira Clan (平氏) is a Japanese clan recorded in the classical genealogical sources of Japan. In the Shinsen Shōjiroku (815 CE) and related lineage chronicles, the clan is classified as imperial-descent (Kōbetsu). The lineage is traditionally associated with the Kantō region and the Seto Inland Sea coast during the Heian period (794–1185 CE). Lineage records appear in classical chronicles, shrine genealogies, and provincial gazetteers. See the Japanese-language page for the full lineage record, member registry, and citation list.
