Description
Fukafuchi-no-Mizuyarehana-no-Kami is recorded in Kojiki (712 CE) Upper Volume in the Okuninushi genealogical chain. The passage reads, "Yashimajinumi-no-Kami took to wife Konohanachiruhime, the daughter of Oyamatsumi-no-Kami, and bore Fuwanomojikunusunu-no-Kami; this deity took to wife Hikawa-Hime, daughter of Okami-no-Kami, and bore Fukafuchi-no-Mizuyarehana-no-Kami." The name is read as a deity of deep pools and water-flowers. His father is Fuwanomojikunusunu-no-Kami and his mother is Hikawa-Hime; his consort is Amenotsudoechine-no-Kami and his child is Omizunu-no-Kami, sometimes identified with the principal deity of the Izumo Kuni-biki narrative. He stands as the third-generation deity in the seven-generation Izumo lineage that begins with Yashimajinumi-no-Kami and ends with Okuninushi-no-Kami, supporting the Izumo Kokuso Kamuyogoto genealogical structure. Independent shrines are limited, but he is recognised among the ancestors in the genealogy at Izumo Taisha.
