Description

Kisakaihime (キサ貝比売) is a divine name recorded in the Kojiki (712 CE), specifically in the upper scroll Land of Roots visit section of Okuninushi. The Kokugakuin University Database of Deities preserves the reading. According to the Kojiki, when Okuninushi was burned to death by the eighty deities, his mother Sashikuniwakahime pleaded with Kamimusubi, who dispatched Kisakaihime (cockle-shell deity) and Umugaihime (clam-shell deity) to revive him. Kisakaihime ground her shell as the "mother's milk" and Umugaihime applied it as moisture, restoring Okuninushi to life. The Kokugakuin Database treats this as part of the textual citation; IZANORA records this name strictly as it appears in the source.
