Description
Kushinada-hime (櫛名田比売) is a divine name listed in the Kojiki (712 CE), specifically in the upper scroll sections on the slaying of Yamata-no-Orochi and the Suga Palace. The Kokugakuin University Database of Deities preserves the reading. She is the daughter of Ashinazuchi and Tenazuchi of Izumo, saved from sacrifice to Yamata-no-Orochi by Susanoo. After the slaying, Susanoo built the palace at Suga in Izumo and made her his consort. Interpretations of identification vary across commentaries, and IZANORA records this name strictly as it appears in the source.
