Description

Ohehime-no-Kami (大戸比売神) is an earthly deity recorded in the Kojiki (712 CE) as an alternate name for Okutsuhime-no-Mikoto. The name element "Ohe" denotes a great hearth or great household, expressing the dignity of the goddess who sits at the center of the home, namely the hearth goddess. Father is Otoshi-no-Kami; mother is Amechikarumizuhime. She is paired with her brother Okutsuhiko-no-Kami (deity of the embers). Other siblings include Oyamakui-no-Kami, Niwatsuhi-no-Kami, Niwatakatsuhi-no-Kami, Otsuchi-no-Kami, Asuha-no-Kami, Hahiki-no-Kami, Kayamatoomi-no-Kami, and Hayamato-no-Kami, forming the ten children of the same mother. Otoshi-no-Kami is the child of Susanoo and Kamuoichihime, with Ukanomitama as his elder sibling, forming the central axis of the grain-deity lineage.
