Description

Takamimusuhi-no-Kami is recorded at the opening of Kojiki (712 CE) Upper Volume as the second of the three creator deities to come into being in Takamagahara, after Amenominakanushi-no-Kami and before Kamimusubi-no-Kami. In Nihon Shoki (720 CE) Jindai chapter seven he is placed at the apex of the divine genealogy, with the role weighted differently between the main text and the variant accounts. He acts as a leading deity in the council that pacifies Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni and in the descent of Ninigi-no-Mikoto, alongside Amaterasu-Omikami. His name also appears as Takagi-no-Kami. His children include Omoikane-no-Kami, who plans the recovery from the rock-cave, and Takuhatachichihime-no-Mikoto, the mother of Ninigi, placing him at a central node of the imperial genealogy. He is enshrined at Tokyo Daijingu, Adachi Tara Jinja in Fukushima and Takakamo Jinja in Nara.
