Description

Takemikazuchi-no-O-no-Kami is recorded in Kojiki (712 CE) Upper Volume as the formal name of Takemikazuchi, born when the blood from the base of the sword that Izanagi-no-Mikoto used to slay Kagutsuchi splashed onto rocks, together with Mikahayahi-no-Kami and Hihayahi-no-Kami. In the pacification of Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni he descends with Ame-no-Torifune-no-Kami to the Inasa shore, plants his sword point-up and sits on its tip while facing Okuninushi-no-Kami. He contests Takeminakata-no-Kami in a test of strength and drives him to Suwa. Nihon Shoki (720 CE) Jindai lower writes the name Takemikazuchi alongside Futsunushi-no-Kami. In the Jimmu eastern campaign he sends down his sword Saji-Futsu-no-Kami via Takakuraji. He is enshrined at Kashima Jingu in Ibaraki and at Kasuga Taisha in Nara, where he was transferred from Kashima in 768 CE as the chief of the four Fujiwara tutelary deities.
