Torinarumi-no-Kami

Torinarumi-no-Kami is recorded in Kojiki (712 CE) Upper Volume in the Okuninushi genealogical passage, where the linked Izumo line is set out and his name is given as the fifth-generation ancestor on the path from Takehaya-Susanoo-no-Mikoto to Okuninushi-no-Kami. The name combines tori (bird) and narumi (sounding sea), placed in the central rung of the seven-generation Izumo line that runs Yashimajinumi-no-Kami to Fuwanomojikunusunu-no-Kami to Fukafuchi-no-Mizuyarehana-no-Kami to Funozunu-no-Kami to Torinarumi-no-Kami to Nunooshitomi-Torinarumi-no-Kami to Amenofuyukinu-no-Kami to Okuninushi-no-Kami. His consort is Hinaterunukatabichiokochini-no-Kami, and his child is Kunioshitomi-no-Kami. He appears in the Izumo Kokuso Kamuyogoto ancestral list. Independent shrines are limited, but he is recognised among the ancestors in the genealogical structure at Izumo Taisha and at Sada Jinja, the second shrine of Izumo Province.
