Description
Yashimajinumi-no-Kami is recorded in Kojiki (712 CE) Upper Volume in the Susanoo passage. After Takehaya-Susanoo-no-Mikoto sought a place to build a palace in Izumo and arrived at Suga, where he said, "Coming to this place my heart is fresh," and built his palace, the text records his union with Kushinadahime, "and through this Kushinadahime, joined in the chamber, the first deity born was named Yashimajinumi-no-Kami." He is thus the first child of Susanoo and Kushinadahime, and the founding ancestor of the Izumo line. His father is Takehaya-Susanoo-no-Mikoto and his mother is Kushinadahime. His consort is Konohanachiruhime, daughter of Oyamatsumi-no-Kami, and his child is Fuwanomojikunusunu-no-Kami. As the first generation of the Izumo line the chain runs Yashimajinumi-no-Kami to Fuwanomojikunusunu-no-Kami to Fukafuchi-no-Mizuyarehana-no-Kami to Funozunu-no-Kami to Torinarumi-no-Kami to Nunooshitomi-Torinarumi-no-Kami to Amenofuyukinu-no-Kami to Okuninushi-no-Kami. He is enshrined at Suga Jinja in Unnan, Shimane, where Susanoo and Kushinadahime built their first palace, and is recognised in the genealogy at Izumo Taisha.
