Description

Yamata-no-Orochi is a Kojiki (712 CE) figure registered in the Kokugakuin University Classical Cultures Project Shinmei Database. The cited passage is the upper-scroll account of the slaying of the eight-headed serpent, in which Susanoo-no-Mikoto, descended to Izumo, rescues Kushinada-hime from being devoured. The Nihon Shoki (720 CE) parallel narrative provides additional variants. From the tail of the slain serpent, the sword Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi is recovered, which later becomes one of the Three Sacred Treasures. Because the figure spans both Kojiki and Nihon Shoki traditions with several name variants, IZANORA anchors the entry to the cited passage and records related deities (Susanoo, Kushinada-hime) as separate nodes.
