Description

Kamuatatsuhime (神阿多都比売) is a heavenly-line goddess recorded in the Kojiki (712 CE). She is an alternate name for Konohana-no-Sakuya-bime-no-Mikoto, called Kamuatatsuhime due to her connection with the Ata district on the southern Satsuma Peninsula. As the consort of Ninigi-no-Mikoto, she is the maternal ancestor of the imperial line. According to the Kojiki upper scroll on the heavenly descent, "My name is Kamuatatsuhime, also called Konohana-no-Sakuya-bime". She met Ninigi at Cape Kasasa, and along with her sister Iwanaga-hime, was sent by her father Oyamatsumi-no-Kami. Ninigi returned Iwanaga-hime and married only Kamuatatsuhime, an event the source ties to the shortened lifespan of the heavenly grandchild. Father is Oyamatsumi-no-Kami; consort is Ninigi; sons are Hoderi (Umisachihiko), Hosuseri, and Hoori (Yamasachihiko). Principal shrine: Niita Shrine in Satsumasendai, Kagoshima.
