Description
Tsuboi Hachimangu (Tsuboi-hachimangu) stands in Habikino City, Osaka Prefecture, in the Tsuboi district at the base of the Konda burial mound area. The main enshrined deity is Emperor Ojin (Hondawake-no-Mikoto), with Empress Jingu and Himegami as co-enshrined deities, following the standard Hachiman pantheon derived from Usa Jingu in Buzen Province. According to shrine tradition, the shrine was founded in 1064 by Minamoto no Yoriyoshi (988-1075), founder of the Kawachi Genji warrior lineage, on his family estate at Tsuboi as the ancestral Hachiman shrine of his descendants. The shrine continued as the protective Hachiman of the Kawachi Genji, the line that produced Minamoto no Yoritomo and the Kamakura shogunate, and was supported through the medieval and early modern periods. It is designated an Osaka Prefecture Cultural Property and continues as a Jinja Honcho registered shrine maintained by the local community.
